Terry Butcher believes there is still work to be done before Inverness face Celtic on the opening day of the Scottish Premier League season. The Caley Thistle manager was happy his side managed to come through their first competitive match of the campaign, with a 3-0 success over Queen's Park in the first round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup. However, the former England captain conceded they were still working towards the visit of Celtic to the Highland capital in two weeks time. A first-half goal by Lee Cox was added to after the interval by Eric Odhiambo and Ross Tokely as Caley Thistle comfortably overcame their Division Three opponents. Butcher said: "We did some good things and when we did they were excellent. However, there were some bad things as well and we need to work on that. "It's still early though in terms of looking at SPL form because I don't think any SPL club just now is anywhere near top form. "To be honest, I'd be more worried if we were peaking just now as it's still relatively early in pre-season. "However, I've been happy with the progress we've made in every game since the squad returned to training. "The plan now is to maintain that progress and to keep on doing the good things, while eradicating the bad parts of our play." For Queen's Park manager Gardner Speirs, the game against Caley Thistle presented his young side with another learning curve, but overall he was pleased with the performance from his players. Speirs said: "I don't think we can feel aggrieved at the final result. I thought we did reasonably well for the first 20 minutes, but Caley Thistle scored a good first goal. "We then made a couple of mistakes in the second half and having played SPL opposition a couple of times during pre-season it was no surprise that we were punished. "However, the players gave me everything. One thing I know is that they will keep going for the full 90 minutes and if we can take that type of performance into the league season when it starts next week then we'll be fine."
