Richards: Ready for new challenge
VALE ACE RATES SPIREITES MOVE Port Vale striker Marc Richards insists his upcoming transfer to Chesterfield will not be a "sideways step". The 29-year-old Wolverhampton-born forward has agreed to link up with the Spireites from next season, despite the fact John Sheridan's men will compete against the Valiants in League Two having suffered relegation.
He told The Sentinel: "John Sheridan sold the idea of moving to me and it just felt right.
"People might think it's a sideways step, but they won the League Two title in 2010/11 and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy last year, even though they went down again.
"They have a young manager with a good squad and money to build. They are looking to push on and bounce straight back to League One.
"They also create lots of chances, which I will thrive on. I have no crystal ball, but I would love it if both Chesterfield and Vale were promoted next season."
