Boss Martin Ling praised Rene Howe and Ryan Jarvis as Torquay beat Accrington 1-0 on Friday to remain second in League Two.
Gulls targetman Howe crashed in his 13th goal of the season in the 73rd minute at Plainmoor after great work by on-loan Walsall forward Jarvis.
Ling - whose promotion-chasing side remain second, five points behind table-topping Swindon - said: "The goal was great and Rene will take all the plaudits but Ryan Jarvis chased down a hopeful ball from Joe Oastler and in doing so set up Rene's goal.
"Sometimes that is important as a manager - the work that Ryan did and he deserves a share of the plaudits for chasing a seemingly lost cause into the corner. Rene's not trained an awful lot, he's carrying a bit of an injury, but he has now gone level with Lee Mansell on 13 goals as top scorer.
"I am quite happy for them to carry on scoring from now until the end of the season, if we can get another five 1-0 wins. We will take that. It's getting to the stage of the season where performances are not as good as they have been and the players are looking nervy, edgy but the important thing was we got another three points.
"I thought it might go away from us when we missed a couple of gilt-edged chances but they both fell to Mark Ellis but he is defender and he did his job at the other end of the pitch, which is important."
