WANYAMA REVEALS EUROPEAN DREAM
Victor Wanyama is looking forward to helping Celtic get back among Europe's elite in next season's Champions League.
The Clydesdale Bank Premier League champions will have to negotiate two qualifying rounds through the champions' path before reaching the lucrative group stages.
The 20-year-old Kenyan has fond memories of the last time Celtic reached those heady heights and hopes the current squad can create more memorable nights.
"I watched a lot of the Champions League back home as they show the games in Kenya," he told Celtic View.
"I saw Celtic play Man United four years ago, at Celtic Park, when they drew 1-1.
"That was probably my earliest memory of watching Celtic play, well at least in the Champions League anyway because I would always watch them play against Rangers.
"It is the best tournament you can play in with your club.
"We haven't been there for a while so we all want to get back to where we should be."
Wanyama has come a long way since playing barefoot as boy and is excited about the prospect of testing himself against the best clubs in Europe.
"I would play football in the streets and we would all be wearing football strips for the team we were supporting," he said.
"Some of them had their Chelsea tops on, others would have Manchester United, so to play against big teams like that would be a dream come true.
"It won't be easy because anything can happen and nothing is ever easy in the Champions League but we have a good team and we will work hard."
However, Wanyama, equally at home in midfield or defence, will not have much time to recover from a tough first season with Celtic, following his transfer from Beerschot last summer.
Kenya play three games in June, and with Celtic entering the Champions League qualifiers in late July, Wanyama will be back on club duty soon after he returns.
He said: "I have to play for my country. I am very proud to do it.
"We won't finish until June 18 and we are back in with Celtic not long after that so I don't have time to go on holiday."
