Kaiserslautern chairman Stefan Kuntz has launched an attack on his club's players after their relegation to the second division was all but sealed.

A 2-0 defeat to Nurnberg means the Red Devils will go down if Cologne pick up at least a point from their clash with Borussia Monchengladbach and Kuntz says the players have not done enough to save the club from relegation.

"I have got to say honestly that this is emotionally the worst thing I have experienced up to now," he said.

"I have got to say that the way they played is not worthy of Kaiserslautern.

"Honesty, decency and professionalism are all values that you can expect from Kaiserslautern, but there was far too little of that today.

"I cannot see any anger, any motivation to fight with all that we have got."

Kuntz says the team will now be overhauled in a bid to return to the top flight at the first attempt.

"I don't know how long this current feeling will last when it all sinks in," he told Sky television.

"Then we will have to take decisions for the future and look for new players and tell one or two here that we have to part company.

"That is because we need a new beginning."

Coach Krassimir Balakov has not given up on his side staying up, however.

"I always have hope," he said. "I always have hope, but it's very difficult and a bit unrealistic.

"But as long as there is hope, we will try to fight."
