Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp says his side are on the cusp of "the best season of our lives" after moving to within touching distance of the title on Saturday.

A 2-1 win over Schalke in the 140th Revier derby allied to Bayern Munich's 0-0 draw with Mainz mean the Westphalians can clinch the title by beating Borussia Monchengladbach next Saturday.

They may even be crowned champions before taking to the field at the Westfalenstadion if Bayern fail to pick up more than a point at Werder Bremen, but Klopp wants his side to remain focused on winning their last three games to crown an extraordinary campaign.

"Of course (winning the league) becomes more probable with this victory, but until we don't actually have any reason to pop the champagne corks, we will not do so," he said.

"Why should we think about anything other than picking up more points and, ideally, playing the best season of our lives, at least in terms of points.

"Then we will see if there is anything to celebrate."

Dortmund have not lost in 25 games and Klopp says that record is already a major achievement.

"It is crazy," he told Sky television. "To do that is not imaginable.

"In the end, we were a bit lucky to win today, but that is not so bad. When you have such a long series unbeaten, you cannot always thrash your opponents.

"Only two or three sides in the world can do that, but nobody in Germany. That is why I am absolutely satisfied today."
