AC Milan striker Antonio Cassano will find out next week if he can begin playing again just five months after undergoing minor heart surgery.
The Rossoneri have asked the Italian Sports Medicine Federation to compile a panel of medical experts to analyse Cassano's condition.
A 10-man medical commission will meet on Monday in Milan to consider whether the Italy international is ready to return.
"Until he is given the all-clear, Cassano is not available for selection," AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said in Friday's press conference.
"I hope he returns soon as it would be important to have him available before the end of the season."
Cassano was hospitalised after feeling unwell following Milan's 3-2 victory at Roma on October 29 and underwent successful heart surgery a week later.
The 29-year-old started training with his team-mates on Thursday.
