Leicester manager Nigel Pearson expects the race to reach the npower Championship play-offs to go down to the final game of the season.

Pearson played down the fact his side had let two points slip away by drawing 0-0 at home with relegation-threatened east midlands rivals Nottingham Forest.

Victory would have moved Leicester within two points of the top six.

Pearson said: "In some ways it is two points dropped. But they set out to not get beaten and they achieved that so we have to give them a bit of credit for that.

"We tried to win the game but we just didn't have that cutting edge. But I think the players have shown the desire to win, although it fizzled out in the second half in terms of the chances created.

"But we are six points off fourth place. It is two points dropped but it is one of those where we have to keep our focus on what is going to happen in the next few games.

"There are teams above us in worse form than us and we just have to make sure that we remain positive about our run in. There is an awful lot that can happen between now and the end of the season.

"I think it will go down to the final game to determine the sixth position and we have to make sure we are in contention for that.

"Don't get me wrong, there is an awful lot of work to be done and we are not taking it for granted that that will be the case.

"But with how the last month has gone with teams dropping points, it gives an awful lot of team encouragement that they might be involved.

"I am disappointed (to draw) but that is tempered with the knowledge that it remains exceptionally tight."

Forest were beaten 4-0 at the King Power Stadium in an FA Cup third-round replay in January.

Reds boss Steve Cotterill felt Tuesday night's result showed just how far his team has come over the past two months.

"When we were in on Sunday I said to the players it will be interesting to see how far we have come. And that was a measure of how far we have come, so we are really pleased," said Cotterill.

"It was different to Saturday against Brighton because we have had to show the other side of our game, and I thought we did that very well.

"I am pleased with the point. It has got us to that 40-point mark with is important psychologically. With it being our game in hand we wanted to get something from it.

"It was very disciplined, they were magnificent. I think we have looked a proper team for a while now, which is why the results have changed.

"It has coincided with the loan players and having a back four. We have got a little bit of competition now as well, which helps and keeps people on their toes."

In-form winger Garath McCleary missed out against Leicester with a hamstring injury and Cotterill confirmed that the 24-year-old will undergo a scan on Wednesday.
