Carlo Ancelotti will decide on Friday night whether to hand Alex his Paris St Germain debut in Saturday's Ligue 1 clash with Evian.
PSG boss Ancelotti was last week reunited with Brazil defender Alex, whom he managed at Chelsea for two seasons before his sacking last summer.
Alex has been training with his new team-mates, but Ancelotti admitted the player's fitness had suffered from a lack of match action, with the 29-year-old having not featured in even a reserve-team game since being frozen out of the Blues squad at the end of November.
"Alex was tired after training on Wednesday because he has not played for two months," Ancelotti told a press conference today.
"I'll see tonight if he plays or not."
Ancelotti confirmed fellow January signing Thiago Motta would make his debut on Saturday in a game PSG must win to ensure they stay at least three points clear of second-placed Montpellier.
Ancelotti was pleased with his side's business during the January transfer window, which also saw him sign Maxwell but miss out on Manchester City's Carlos Tevez.
"It's a good group, the club has worked hard during this transfer window," Ancelotti said.
"We have three more players, important players for the team.
"They have quality, experience and personality. I'm happy."
PSG have a 100% record in competitive games since Ancelotti took charge, but he will take nothing for granted against an Evian side who raced to a 2-0 lead in September's reverse fixture before the capital club fought back for a 2-2 draw.
"Evian will give everything to create problems for PSG," he said.
"They will be focused on defence and play counter-attack."
Defiant Evian boss Pablo Correa said: "PSG are not unbeatable. No team is unbeatable."
