Nancy defender Joel Sami is looking forward to looking horns with former team-mate Julien Feret when Rennes travel to Stade Marcel Picot on Saturday.
Feret spent three seasons with Les Chardons before joining Rennes last summer, but Sami stressed his side would not be focusing too much on their old boy.
Nancy, who sit three points clear of the Ligue 1 relegation zone, will be looking to build on their win at Auxerre last time out while Rennes are flying high in sixth but lost to Marseille last Sunday.
Sami told www.asnl.net: "I know that he can make a difference but the mistake is to focus on Fufu (Feret) because that will free up space for his team-mates.
"The best way to counter it will be to defend well, collectively reducing space. Rennes are a good team that like to have the ball but also has moments of weakness. We saw that during the match against OM."
Feret is expecting his old side to present Rennes with a stern test on what will be a significant evening for the 29-year-old.
He told www.staderennais.com: "Nancy is fighting to stay in Ligue 1. This of course will be a special match for me because I do not forget that this is the club that gave me confidence to play in Ligue 1.
"They are able to fight for 90 minutes. You feel it when you play there. They also move forward quickly. Care must be taken. Now I hope we will win. It's not that I would be pleased to see Nancy lose, but I desire to see Rennes win there."
Nancy goalkeeper Damien Gregorini will be absent for personal reasons while Benjamin Jeannot is injured and Bakaye Traore away at the African Nations Cup.
Rennes duo Kader Mangane and Jonathan Pitroipa have returned from Africa, but Cheick Diarra and John Boye are still involved and Youssouf Hadji and Razak Boukari injured.
