Sochaux's search for a win goes on - but Cedric Bakambu's equaliser 10 minutes from time gives them hope in their quest to end their slump down the Ligue 1 table.
Alaixys Romao looked set to continue the misery for the visitors when he opened the scoring for Lorient just past the hour mark at Stade du Moustoir - but Bakambu's eye-catching goal averted a fifth successive defeat for Les Lionceaux as they drew 1-1.
Bakambu had the game's first chance, shooting wide in the second minute after Yassin Mikari had made good ground down the left and crossed for him.
Lorient had to wait until the 32nd minute for their first opening - and then Kevin Monnet-Paquet's shot was deflected for a corner by goalkeeper Pierrick Cros.
Sochaux threatened two minutes later when Marvin Martin's free-kick found the head of on-loan Thierry Doubai - but goalkeeper Fabien Audard was able to save.
Arnold Mvuemba was wide with a free-kick for Lorient five minutes before half-time - and the home side were immediately on the front foot after the restart when Joel Campbell saw his curling shot saved by Cros.
Sochaux, who slumped to second from bottom on the back of just one point in their previous seven games, came close five minutes later when Bakambu skimmed the post after receiving the ball from Martin.
But it was the home side who broke the deadlock when Romao's shot found the corner, following good work by Yann Jouffre.
Audard blocked a long-range effort from Sloan Privat in the 78th minute - but soon after Sochaux had their equaliser when Bakambu gave the Lorient goalkeeper no chance with a stunning rising drive from 18 yards which found the top corner.
Cros punched clear from Jouffre, then Audard produced a good save to stop Privat's powerful shot finding the net, as both sides had to settle for a point.
