Leeds under-18s academy skipper Simon Lenighan has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been rewarded with a 12-month deal with the option of a further year.

"I'm very happy," Lenighan told the club's official website. "You never really know what's going to happen until they tell you, so you just have to do your best.

"I'd like to play regularly and hopefully force my way into the first-team squad. It'll be a challenge, but I'm always up for a challenge."
